OBTAINING Your Real Estate Sales Associate License
The steps involved in becoming a licensed real estate sales associate in Florida are as follows:

1) Be at least 18 years old

2) Have a high school diploma or GED

3) Successfully complete a FREC (Florida Real Estate Commission) approved pre-licensing course consisting of 63 classroom hours and covering the topics mandated by FREC. (You may fulfill this education requirement prior to submitting your application to the state; or, many students opt to submit their application to the state then take the real estate class.) NOTE: Any active member in good standing with the Florida Bar is exempt from the FREC prescribed prerequisite educational course for licensure.

4) Complete the Florida Application to obtain your real estate license and have it notarized.

a. Submit application fee to state of Florida for $105.00.

b. Mail the notarized Application,  and fee to State of Florida, DBPR (Department of Business & Professional Regulation) at:

DBPR Central Intake Unit
1940 North Monroe Street
Tallahassee, FL 32399-1027

c. If you have not submitted your application by the time you attend your sales pre-licensing course at Professional Real Estate Institute, we will assist you in completing, notarizing, and mailing the application package to the state.

NOTE: However, we strongly urge you to begin the application process ASAP, since it may take the state takes 2-6 weeks before you receive notification that you are eligible to take the Florida real estate exam. It is to your benefit to minimize the time between completion of your sales pre-license course and your state exam.

5) The State may take anywhere from 3– 8 weeks to process and approve your application to for a real estate license. Once approved, the DRE (Division of Real Estate) then gives your name to the company that administers all real estate exams for the State of Florida, ASI (Assessment Systems, Inc.), also called “Promissor".

6) You will receive notification from Promissor (ASI) that you are eligible to take the state exam.
a. Promissor will provide you with a list of exam dates & locations.

b. You select the date, time, and location of your exam, and contact Promissor/ASI and make a reservation for taking your sales exam.

c. You pay ASI/Promissor a testing fee of $45.50 either at the time you make your reservation or at the test site on the day of your exam.

9) Pass the Florida Real Estate Broker Examination with a grade of at least 75.

8) Submit a completed RE 2050-1 form to the state in order to activate your license, otherwise the license is issued in an “inactive status.” You can complete the form at the exam site, or mail it to DRE (Division of Real Estate).
