INTRODUCTION
As a professional real estate educator, Terri Stewart brings to the table a highly specialized educational background in business and law with hands-on, real-world experience spanning over 23 years. Her diverse background includes residential sales; sales management; brokerage ownership; land syndication & development; condominium association creation, management, and turnover; and multi-family and single-family community development.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Terri's post-graduate degrees include a J.D. (Juris Doctor) from Loyola University School of Law, New Orleans. Further, she earned the LL.M. (Master of Laws - an advanced legal degree for lawyers seeking to specialize in one area of law) in Real Property Development Law from University of Miami School of Law, one of few law schools in the nation offering an advanced legal degree in real estate law.
Her business background includes an M.B.A. (Master of Business Administration) in Real Estate Development & Management, from Nova Southeastern University. Her real estate career began upon completing her undergraduate studies at University of New Orleans (L.S.U. at N.O.), where she earned a B.S. in Business Administration, concentrating in real estate, marketing, and finance.
REAL ESTATE EXPERIENCE
A real estate licensee since 1985, she began her career as a Sales Counselor in New Orleans for General Homes Corporation, a top national builder. In 1987, she moved to Naples and held Sales Manager, Director of Sales & Marketing, and Owner/Broker positions for several successful, award-winning, luxury carriage-home communities. Terri has been involved in over 1,200 transactions throughout her career. She obtained her Florida Broker's License in 1992 and formed a brokerage company specializing in on-site sales for her new residential communities. Also in the 90s, Terri earned the following professional designations through the National Association of Realtors and the National Association of Homebuilders, respectively:
- GRI (Graduate, Realtor Institute)
- CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) - ranking her in the top 2% of Realtors nationwide
- CSP (Certified New Home Sales Professional)
In addition to her sales achievements, Terri excelled in the development arena as a residential developer. She was an owner/developer and general partner for several award-winning new communities* in Naples. She sold her development & brokerage companies in 2001. Since that time, she has remained active as a Licensed Real Estate Broker & REALTOR®, providing development consulting to developers & builders, and consulting to real estate brokerage firms on issues involving risk management, ethics, and issues of real estate license law.
A Licensed Real Estate Instructor, Terri is among a small group of Realtors qualified to teach GRI courses for the Florida Association of Realtors' Realtor Institute. In addition to teaching courses for FAR, Terri teaches and lectures regularly for local Realtors' Associations statewide on the NAR Code of Ethics, Florida real estate license law & FREC rules, broker liability, risk management, and more. Each Spring semester, Terri teaches a senior level, undergraduate course, MGT 475 - Real Estate Venturing, as an Adjunct Professor at University of Tampa. Additionally, she is occasionally called upon to testify as an Expert Witness in hearings & legal proceedings.
A member of the Realtor Association of Greater Ft. Lauderdale, Terri serves on the Grievance & Candidate Screening committees, and is 2008 Chair of the Professional Development Committee. In 2007 she chaired the Rookie Realtor Subcommittee, which launched the Rookie Realtor Society for "Today's Realtors of Tomorrow." She is also a 2007 Leadership Development Graduate.
At the state level, Terri is a 2008 FAR Director, and member of Florida Association of Realtors' 2008 Professional Development committee, Faculty Development subcommittee, and Professional Standards Forum.
Additionally she is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the Lincoln Institute for Land Policy. She is also a candidate presently for the DREI (Distinguished Real Estate Instructor) designation through the national REEA (Real Estate Educators Association), and the CRB (Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager).
Aside from her professional commitments, Terri dedicates her time and resources to Covenant House, Kids in Distress, and the Florida Guardian Ad Litem program. An avid writer and photographer, Terri loves nature, travel, word games, movies, reading, bicycling, canoeing, camping, and hearing live music. A native of Louisiana, she grew up playing trumpet & piano and has a range of eclectic musical tastes (i.e.Allman Bros., Johnny Cash, Grateful Dead, JJ Cale, Elvis, The Verve, Moby, Joe Bonamassa, Louis Armstrong, etc.). She has a passion for nutrition & disease prevention, a keen interest in neuroscience & human behavior, and is often seen loitering in the science aisles at bookstores.
